The hospital rang this morning re. my next THR. They've had a cancellation for next Thursday morning, 18th March, which I've accepted. The Pre-op assessment is Monday. Feeling quite excited, in a perverse kind of way! I wish they'd film the op, so I could watch it afterwards .......... then pass the DVD on to Stewart!! Carol

Thanks everyone! I couldn't access the Forum yesterday, but yes, pre-op assessments went fine - MRSA swabs, pelvic and cervical spine x-rays, ECG and bloods. The worst part of it was not being able to find a Blue Badge parking bay. I cannot get out the car unless the door is fully open. After driving round for half an hour I had to resort to driving to my husband's work and asking him to drive me back to the hospital and drop me off! That made me an hour late and frustrated. In two of the clinics they had no chairs with arms and when I asked, no-one offered to find me a chair so I had to lean against the desk and wall. Apparently they can fit more chairs in if they have no arms! I was considering emailing PALS but can't be bothered to waste any more of my time. Saw my surgeon who was on form as ever, told me he wasn't going to explain about the op because I knew as much as him anyway! I asked whether he wanted to film me, as I have a friend (Stewart) who will be needing THR's soon and he said tell him about the one on Youtube! My op will be Thursday am. and there's only one other on his list, so not much waiting around. He's giving me a half ceramic to match my other hip and he showed me the measurements on screen, I thought I had about an inch leg length discrepancy. It turns out its only 10mm! Carol

Hi Carol, I`m glad all the pre-op stuff went well, and it`s full steam ahead for Thursday. I hope it all goes as well as it possibly can, and you make a really good recovery. Take care, Kathleen x PS Shocking about the Blue Badge bays - all hospital car-parks must be the same! And the chairs too - ridiculous!

Great to hear the post op assessment went well, Carol. Should be full steam ahead now for Thursday. Are you back in Addenbrooke's? Same ward etc so we can send cards?
I know exactly what you mean about parking and needing the car door open to its widest point. I can't get in and out unless I'm in a disabled bay either and it's a real pain when they are all taken up. It sounds like you had quite a round trip to get there at all!
Everything crossed for Thursday.
Are you going in tomorrow?
Lots of luck and love Jeanxxxxx
